The City of Fairview released an impact statement on the afternoon of March 3 windstorm which heavily affected the area. Richard Ross, Public Information Officer for the City of Fairview, said the city responded to approximately 20 calls related to the storm.
City Manager Tom Daugherty and Ross were briefed on those calls. “The calls consisted of trees and debris blocking the roadway and down powerlines,” stated Ross, who confirmed the fire department responded to 18 storm-related calls. He also noted that no additional first responders from other shifts were called in to assist.
Beyond citizen needs, Ross said approximately 75 trees fell in Bowie Nature Park from the high winds. “A small portion of the trail going around Lake Van was rerouted due to a couple trees being uprooted.”
The report stated no damage occurred at city hall, the nature center or Bowie Park pavilions. However, few shingles were missing from the bathrooms at Bowie Park.
Ross added, “Parks Department is still in the process of clearing trails and will continue to do so for the next several days.”
Any additional updates may be provided at the next city commission meeting which has been changed from March 16 to Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
