Jo Byrns lost 5-1 to Peabody and 6-4 to Coalfield to end its first ever appearance in the Class 1A state baseball tournament.
The Red Devils trailed the Golden Tide 5-0 after four innings on Tuesday. Their only run came on an Antwaun Lucas single that scored Rex Liebengood.
Jo Byrns found itself in a similar spot in Wednesday morning’s elimination game, falling behind 5-1 to Coalfield midway through the fourth. They scratched three runs across in the bottom of the fifth and had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh, but a Wyatt Gravett strikeout ended the rally and their season.
The Devils bid farewell to Trevecca signee Taylor Head and head coach John Mark Hendricks with the loss. They finished the year with a 15-11 record.
