Battle Ground Academy is seeking a new leader for its football program.

Head coach Jonas Rodriguez resigned from the position last week, school athletic director Fred Eaves confirmed to Main Street Preps in an email on Monday afternoon.

Rodriguez posted a 25-30 record across five seasons with the Wildcats. He was hired in April 2019 to replace Roc Batten, who left BGA earlier that month to become the head coach at Ensworth.

BGA went 8-4 and advanced to the TSSAA Division II-AA state quarterfinals in Rodriguez’s debut season. But the Wildcats haven’t been better than .500 since 2019, finishing 5-5 in 2020, 6-6 in 2021, 1-9 in 2022 and 5-6 this year.

Rodriguez, who played at Yale University, was the head coach at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis for two seasons before he arrived at BGA. He had previously worked as an assistant at Ensworth, Franklin Road Academy and his alma mater Montgomery Bell Academy.

BGA joins a growing list of area schools in the market for a football coach. That group also includes Brentwood Academy, Franklin, Forrest, Glencliff, Goodpasture, Lipscomb Academy and Montgomery Central.
