Man receives life sentence for Mt. Juliet murder

A Wilson County man has received a life sentence after a jury deliberated for less than an hour following his trial for first-degree murder.

Wilson County Criminal Court Judge Brody Kane sentenced Lucian Clemmons to life in prison for the death of James Ray Huddleston in Mt. Juliet in 2021.

Clemmons and Huddleston had a verbal argument outside of the home of Huddleston’s girlfriend when Huddleston picked up a bag of groceries and turned to enter the house. Clemmons followed Huddleston into the home where he fired five shots. Two of them hit Huddleston.

Clemmons was also convicted of reckless endangerment as one of the bullets struck a couch where a 10-year-old child was sleeping. The child was unharmed. He was also convicted of aggravated assault for pointing the gun at another adult in the home.

He will be sentenced for those charges at a later hearing.

Two teens dead, infant injured following crash

Two teenagers died in a single-car crash on Old Murfreesboro Road last Sunday.

Driver Toby Lackey, 19, and passenger Cali Minor, 19, died in the crash. An infant in the backseat was injured, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, but the agency did not detail the extent of the injuries.

According to the THP incident report, the 2008 Saturn Astra was traveling north on Old Murfreesboro Road just before 1 p.m. when Lackey came around a curve, overcorrected and drove off the road.

The car hit an embankment before it crashed into a tree, according to the THP report.

Illegal drugs seized from convenience store

Lebanon police officers seized 38 bottles of Tianeptine, commonly known as ZaZa, last week after the drugs were sold illegally to undercover operatives at Geri’s Market on Leeville Pike.

The drug, which resembles an opioid, is highly addictive and was made illegal in the state in July 2022 as a Schedule 2 controlled substance.

The officers also found other individually packaged legend drugs, which require a prescription, at the store.
