Fairview Comic-Con proved to be a real phenomenon!

Even the excessive August heat did not stop fans from flocking to Bowie Nature Park last Saturday for Fairview Comic-Con 2023 – and many attendees shared rave reviews for the pop culture event.

Comic-Con is a themed event centered around comic book, television, film and pop culture, hosted by the Fairview Arts Council, City of Fairview and Smokey’s Collectibles and Toys.

What started out as a gathering for comic book fans, comic-con events have grown into popular geek-culture comic, sci-fi and fantasy experiences around the globe. Along with comic book fans, the Fairview Comic-Con attracted lots of colorful characters including superheroes, villains and comic creatures that delighted all ages.

Attendees described the comic-con experience as “fabulous,” “mind-blowing,” and “phenomenal!”

The growth of comic-cons in recent years is directly related to the increasing number of comic characters invading more television shows, movies and other forms of art. It is no longer just about comic book nerds, but also incorporates pop culture as well.

Fairview’s one-day, outdoor event brought together comic, gaming and fantasy universe fans to experience lots of colorful characters, comic vehicles like Barricade on the Hunt and the Ugly Little Spud Ghost Busters car, and lots of creative vendor booths with unique, comic-related merchandise and collectibles.

Cosplay, which is simply costume play where lots of people in costume interact, was a huge part of the fun at Fairview Comic-Con. Many of the costumes were handmade over several weeks in preparation for the event and created around some aspect of comics to offer fun photo opportunities.

Jessie White shared, “The Bowie Park cosplay event was a lot of fun!”

Fairview Comic-Con also offered guest speakers including Eric Freeman Sims, a paranormal investigator and owner of The Unseen Paranormal Podcast, along with local authors, Jimmy Anderson and Wes Welch.

Sims shared about Fairview Comic Con, “It was hot, but we had a great day and got to meet and talk to so many awesome people! I always enjoy answering questions and talking about the paranormal!”

Teleen Sickles, an attendee, remarked, “Had a blast today! Thank you everyone involved for getting this together!”

The Fairview Arts Council and City of Fairview see this event as a huge success and anticipate it growing year over year as more people become aware of all it has to offer in family fun.
