Hendersonville volleyball dispatches Portland 3-1

Hendersonville picked up its second-straight District 12-AAA win with Thursday’s 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22) home victory over Portland.

Seniors Avery Brandon and Caroline Hall led the charge for the Commandos (7-11, 2-7). They combined for 19 of the team’s 35 kills and led Hendersonville in kill percentage. Hall also paced the team with seven total blocks.

Sasha Dishman recorded a team-high 17 assists. Sophomore Natalie Walker had 23 digs and was one of six Commandos to reach double-digit passes.

Hendersonville convincingly took the first set and set up game point with a six-point win in the second. Portland (4-12, 1-6) rebounded with a 25-23 win in the third frame before the Commandos secured the win and their second win streak of the season.

Hendersonville was swept five-straight times entering this week but righted the ship with four-set games against Mt. Juliet and the Panthers.

With the loss, Portland dropped its ninth consecutive contest.

Both teams return to district action next week. The Panthers host Beech on Monday, while Hendersonville plays the Buccaneers on Thursday.
