The Eta Xi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity held a groundbreaking ceremony at 224 Marion Street at Austin Peay State University this past Saturday that was attended by more than 100 people.

The construction, slated to begin within a month, will be the first purpose constructed fraternity house at Austin Peay. Sigma Chi started off as Kappa Sigma Phi, a local fraternity at Austin Peay in 1967, before successfully petitioning to join Sigma Chi International Fraternity in 1973.

Austin Peay President Michael Licari took part in the groundbreaking ceremony and recognized the value of Greek organizations and Sigma Chi being interwoven into the fabric of the university strengthening the student experience and alumni involvement.

The Sigma Chi House will be approximately 4,000 square feet and will be able to house eight Sigma Chi brothers in single-occupancy, dorm style rooms. There will also be a commons area and kitchen that will serve as a social hosting space along as a meeting space.

Clarksville Sigma Chi Alumni President Rob Silvers, House Corporation Chairman Frank Pierce, Capital Campaign Chairman Clater Mottinger and Austin Peay Sigma Chi Chapter President, Spencer Harp all spoke at the ceremony that also recognized Significant Donors: Ajax Distributing Company, Mike Orville Brown, Jeff Bryant, Rusty Hagenbuch, Scotty Migliaccio, Frank Pierce, Rob Silvers, Clif Sites, David Smith and Steve Tidwell.

Pam Powell is the Architect of the new Sigma Chi House and Jake Welch is the Contractor. With the 50th anniversary of Sigma Chi at Austin Peay taking place in April of 2023, all parties involved are all extremely confident the Sigma Chi Chapter House will be completed months before that 50th anniversary.

Joshua Smith graduated from Austin Peay in 1995 and is the Clarksville Sigma Chi Alumni Secretary.
