Kats earn 58-26 win in front of Clarksville fans

Debuting a new starting quarterback, the Nashville Kats dispatched the Wichita Regulators 58-26 in front of 4,649 in attendance at the F&M Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon for Military Appreciation Day.

Oliver, who passed for seven touchdowns and 164 yards in his first start for Nashville, but it was a stellar defensive effort that propelled the Kats to their secon win of the season. Nashville’s defense recorded six sacks and two interceptions, inclunding one that sent defensive back Trae Meadows into the first row Initially ruled incomplete, coach Dean Cokinos immediately threw the red challenge flag to start a review of the play that eventually overturned the call to an interception.

Nashville took a commanding 24-7 halftime lead after building a 21-0 advantage before the Regulators found the end zone.

Braxton Haley logged his first of four receiving touchdowns on a 16-yard pass from Oliver on a fourth down play to start the game for Nashville. Kicker Pat Clarke then placed perfectly the ensuing kickoff to allow the cover team to tackle the return man in the end zone for an uno.

Recent signee Milton Williams caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Oliver to make it 15-0, followed by Haley’s second touchdown reception, bringing the score to 21-0 Nashville.

Wichita got on the board with 45 seconds left in the half on a 36-yard catch and run, making it 21-7. The Kats added three points just before time expired as Clarke nailed a 20-yard field goal.

Nashville scored 34 second-half points, while holding the Regulators to just 19 points. Wichita scored first in the second half, but Haley responded with his third touchdown making it 31-14. Oliver then added a rushing touchdown, increasing the lead to 37-14.

Oliver passed for three more touchdowns in the second half, connecting with Williams twice and Haley once, bringing the final score to 58-26.

Haley was the top target for Nashville quarterbacks, catching six passes for 70 yards and four touchdowns. Williams hauled in three touchdowns on five receptions for a team-high 85 yards.

Shedrick Kirk led the team with four tackles and a sack. Ezekiel Rose finished with two sacks, while Carlton Brown, Zay Henderson, and Reggie Howard recorded one sack. Derrick Jones and Meadows each had an interception.

The Kats ran 33 plays for 192 yards, while Wichita logged 116 yards on 38 plays.

Nashville travels on Saturday to Orlando to take on the Predators at 7 PM ET / 6 PM CT from the Kia Center.
