Murfreesboro Little Theatre joins New York stage lineup

Thomas

Murfreesboro Little Theatre is scheduled to participate in the 2023 Rogue Theater Festival in New York on Tuesday, June 13.

The theater will produce “This House is Not a Home” by playwright Kyle Thomas of Shelbyville.

The play will be performed at Theatre Row in Manhattan. It’s a show about a shoe repair shop, one of the last of its kind. The owner leads a quiet existence until it is upended by the return of the son of his late business partner who is looking for work.

The son wants to know more about his father and the nature of his exit from the business. The owner is reluctant to share for reasons that become painfully clear.

The two-person show will feature Alec Lanter as “Old” and Jack Seage as “Young.” It was directed by Shane Lowery and Britt Penevolpe and produced by Emma Hawkins.

Thomas was accepted into last year’s festival with his one-man monologue, “Portrait of a Young Man,” which Thomas performed himself.

“Rogue Theater Festival exists to provide an opportunity for new and seasoned artists alike to present their work in a professional and theatrical environment,” according to festival organizers. “We are dedicated to equality and created this company with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists and stories in mind. Our space is open and supportive of all artists and their unique life experiences.”

Rogue has worked with more than 85 playwrights and hundreds of artists in its five-year tenure.

Murfreesboro Little Theatre is planning performances in the fall and will announce them on its website www.mltarts.com.
