Week 4 county playoff picks

Oakland will take its playoff show on the road for the third straight week on Friday when the Patriots play at undefeated Bradley Central.

The Patriots (11-2) reached the state playoff semifinals with a resounding 56-0 win at Riverdale last Friday while Bradley Central (13-0) ended Bearden’s season.

“You know you’ve had a good year if you practice on Thanksgiving,” Oakland coach Kevin Creasy said. “Our players and fans have been fortunate to be part of that for a decade.”

After losing to Riverdale 25-24 at home in their regular-season finale, Oakland seems to have a new focus. Its three playoff opponents — Gallatin, Mt. Juliet and Riverdale — have managed only five combined points.

“Coach David Watson has done a good job with those guys,” Creasy said. “None of those points were on our defense.”

Bradley Central’s path to the semifinals has gone through its own backyard as it has defeated West Ridge (42-0), Maryville (37-14) and Bearden (35-14).

“Anybody that can handle Maryville the way they did better get your attention,” Creasy said. “I know they’ve got a lot of Division I players on their team and they’ve gone undefeated. We expect a rowdy crowd and a hostile environment, but we’re kind of getting used to it.

“We’re going to be see the most talented team we’ve played this year, including Center Grove of Indiana. We’re going to have our hands full. It’s tough to go on the road in the playoffs. I think this group, if we can maintain our focus like we did last week, hopefully we’ll have two weeks left.”

Pick: Oakland 24, Bradley Central 21.

MTCS, which defeated Columbia Academy 35-27 on the road in the semifinals last Friday, will face region foe Friendship Christian in the Division II-A Blue Cross Championships on Nov. 30 at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium.

The Cougars, who won the first matchup at home 16-14, will be making their first-ever appearance in the title game.

Last Week: 1-1. Season: 81-24.
