The Hiding Place will show Sept. 22 at the Temple Theatre. SUBMITTED Henry “Chip” Arnold is one of the stars of The Hiding Place. SUBMITTED
The Temple Theatre has received the rights to show the movie, The Hiding Place, which is currently being seen around the country.
The movie is the filming of the actual stage production of the play. The story is based on the true story of Corrie Ten Boom and her family, who hid hundreds of Jewish refugees during World War II, and their lives after being discovered.
The movie will be shown on Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.templetheatretn.com
Local actor Henry O. “Chip” Arnold plays two roles in the movie adaptation of the play. Arnold plays Meyer, a Jew who hides out at the home of Corrie Ten Boom and Mormon, a German who is in a concentration camp for sedition for sabotaging the radios used in the German warplanes.
“I recently had the privilege of playing two different roles in a new adaptation of The Hiding Place by A.S. Peterson. It was first a stage play, then made into a film, and released in theatres around the world,” Arnold said. “ It was a great honor to be a part of a story that has affected people in such a powerful way. The audience will witness characters who are forced into unspeakably cruel circumstances, yet through it all, they emerge as human beings with a depth and fullness that can only come by walking through the crucible of trauma. This film will, for a moment, take over your reality and offer you a deeper understanding of the world and one’s place in it.”
Arnold’s sister, Nan Gurley, plays Corrie Ten Boom in the lead role. Carrie Tillis, daughter of country music legend Mel Tillis, plays the role of Betsie Ten Boom, and motion picture legend Conrad John Schuck plays the role of Casper Ten Boom.
“We are so glad we were able to work it out to show this film locally at the Temple Theatre,” Temple Director Barry Young said. “With its Portland and Middle Tennessee ties, I hope folks will come out and take advantage of this opportunity to see it right here in Portland.”
The Hiding Place was filmed at the Soli Doe Center in Nashville in 2022. The film was directed by Laura Matula.
The movie is based on the book by the same title, written by Corrie Ten Boom, Elizabeth Sherrill, and John Sherrill.
